Legal Aid NSW Grants Online Registration

In order to conduct business online with Legal Aid NSW, private Law Practices, including barristers, are required to register to access our online portal Grants Online.

This enables associates at the Law Practice to:

  • submit applications for legal aid, claim invoices on legally aided matters
  • respond to audit requests
  • access the Legal Aid NSW Learning Management System to register for courses and conferences

A registered principal of a Law Practice or barrister can access the Panels Application website to apply for appointment to panels.

Family dispute resolution practitioners (FDRP) must be registered for Grants Online in order to submit invoices for FDRP fees at legally aided conferences.

Prior to registering

Before completing the form, you must ensure the following:

  • That the ABN, name of the Law Practice and either entity or business name on the Australian Business Register (ABR) match. If they do not match, we are required by the ATO to deduct withholding tax from any payments to your Law Practice. We will check your ABN entity or business name against the name of the Law Practice registered with the relevant professional association (or interstate equivalent).
  • All associates at the Law Practice to be registered for Grants Online access have up to date details registered with the Law Society of NSW, the NSW Bar Association or equivalent interstate organisation. This includes name of law practice/barrister/mediator, address, phone details and email address.

Legal Aid NSW is required to complete verification checks on details you provide in the registration form. The details we need to verify are:

  • the ABN of the Law Practice with the ABR
  • that each legal practitioner listed in the form matches their registration details with the Law Society of NSW, the NSW Bar Association or equivalent interstate organisation.

If any information listed with the ABR or professional association is not current, this will delay completion of the registration of your Law Practice and any individual associates for Grants Online.

How do I register to use Grants Online?

To register your Law Practice, complete the form below. You must include details of all associates at the Law Practice who will undertake legal aid work.

When all required details are filled in, click the Submit button at the bottom of the form.

A confirmation message will appear, and an email will immediately be sent to you, confirming successful receipt of your registration application. In most circumstances your registration will be processed within 5 working days.

Following receipt of your registration we will complete the verification checks and contact you if we require any of the above verification details updated.
